I'm thinking that the "Funny Animal Photo Contest" is going to become an annual feature. I posted it last year, with the same rationale I'm using this year for a column with pictures from around the globe in a space supposedly focused on local matters only: Everyone needs a comedy break these days -- and there's nothing better --and less fraught with all sorts of dread --from political anxiety to the everyday, existential kind -- than photos of animals doing funny things.
So let's get started. Hop on over to this website: 2025 Comedy Wildlife Photo Contest
Or you might want to start with a slideshow of 2025 Finalists: https://www.comedywildlifephoto.com/gallery/finalists/2025_finalists.php - Click on the first one, and then you can click through to see all 40 of them. And be sure to read the captions!
As a teaser, here are my top three choices from the collection:

Gorilla High Five

Elephant peekaboo

Squirrel airborne surrender mode
These images and more came from the shareable links on the Guardian website.
