Copper Thieves on the Run: Watch Your Downspouts

The MPD 2D Listserv recently posted a lengthy police report that included an item about a theft from a house on Foxhall Road. A citizen member of the listserv asked the police to describe the crime in more detail and received this reply:
Good morning,

The complainant reports between 6:30 pm on 11/11/10 and 6:30 am on 11/12/10, unknown suspect/s stole approximately 175-200 feet of copper downspouts from the front, side and rear of the location, which is under construction. There is no lookout for any suspect/s.

Thank you,

Officer Abigail J. Hughes
DC Metropolitan Police Department
Second District Commander's Office

If you happen to have copper downspouts on your house, you might want to hide a motion-activated video camera in the eaves.  Just a thought.
