Rock Creek Parkway Construction and Traffic Mayhem: It's Over in 2012

Rock Creek Parkway will be under construction through 2012. Here is the timetable and how it will affect traffic on this well traveled road. Thanks to Bill Menczer for sending this in.

November 15, 2010 to March 15, 2011: Reconstruct Shoreham Dr. and Cathedral Avenue

Traffic patterns during this time will be as follows:

Morning rush (6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.): Beach Drive open both directions Cathedral Ave. closed both directions. Shoreham Dr. open southbound (inbound) one lane only.

The remainder of the day (9:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. the following day): Beach Drive open both directions. Cathedral Ave. open northbound only (southbound closed). Shoreham Dr. open northbound (outbound) one lane only (southbound closed).

During this time the parkway itself will be open, the only closures will be on Cathedral and Shoreham as described above.

March 15, 2011 to June 30, 2011 Reconstruct the Rock Creek Parkway.

Four lanes of traffic will be maintained. During non-rush we will have temporary lane closures.

July 1, 2011 to January 31, 2012 Construct a new retaining wall along the creek near Morningside Drive

The right lane of the South bound parkway will be closed for construction of this retaining wall during this 7 month timeframe. All other lanes of the Rock Creek Parkway will be open.
