"Be the Match" Donor Drive this Sunday, Dec. 5 in Chevy Chase

The "Be the Match" Foundation is putting on a drive for bone marrow donors this Sunday, December 5 from 2:00 to 4:00pm at the Jane Lawton Community Center , 4301 Willow Lane, Chevy Chase, MD.  There is free parking and a playground on site.

Everyone who signs up can potentially save a life. When you register, you may be a match for someone who currently needs a donor, or you may be a match for someone who will need a donor sometime in the future, as happened to Gary and Adam. Gary joined the Be The Match Registry in 1999. Nine years later, Adam was born with a very rare form of leukemia that required an immediate marrow transplant. Gary turned out to be Adam's perfect match! Gary's incredible act of generosity, kindness, and bravery, ultimately saved Adam's life. Adam is now happily enjoying life as a healthy two-year old. You can read the whole story here.

To register, you will need to complete some paperwork and swab your inner cheek. Potential donors must be between the ages of 18-60. Adding each person to the registry costs $100, so any donations to help defray the costs are much appreciated.  To make a tax deductible donation go to www.bethematchfoundation.org or mail your check to: Be The Match c/o Juliette Williams, P.O. Box 854, Columbia, MD 21044.
