Good Morning: Bad Day for Galileo

I saw 50 yesterday? Did you glance at a thermometer and see that, too? I hope you enjoyed the view, because today will see a high of about 38 degrees. And looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday's forecast is for a high of about 27 degrees. In between now and then, on Friday, we might see a bit of snow.

On this day in 1633 Galileo left Florence for Rome to face the Inquisition. After several months, he publicly renounced his view that the earth revolved around the sun. Still today there are people who won't let science disrupt their deep-seated views. Some 25 percent of Americans believe in astrology; about half of all American's don't believe in evolution, and about an equal number believe that homeopathy works. About 60 percent of Americans  believe in ESP, and 70 percent of use believe that magnets can heal.
