Recommended: The Best Lock Is a Medeco

Our companion email list, the Cleveland Park Listserv, is a treasure trove of recommendations. We want to share on All Life Is Local, on a periodic basis, the best recommendations that have been posted on the Cleveland Park Listserv. You'll be able to search All Life Is Local for "contractor," "plumber," "computer tech," "auto body shop" -- whatever you need.

Having grown up in the hardware business, the only front door lock we ever bought for our own use was Medeco. It's considered the best on the market for two reasons. Its cylinder is considered pick-proof --something that can't be said about Schlage, Baldwin, etc. (And we sold Schlage and Baldwin.) Also, its keys can't be duplicated. That means people such as a valet parking person can't scribble down your key code and make a copy at a local store to break in, which is what's done all the time. Ask anyone in law enforcement about Medeco vs other brands.
Medeco costs somewhat more and it's a little more difficult to make duplicates; better locksmith shops do it but a little corner convenience store can't. But that's part of its value. I can't recommend it enough.
