Our companion email list, the Cleveland Park Listserv, is a treasure trove of recommendations. We want to share on All Life Is Local, on a periodic basis, the best recommendations that have been posted on the Cleveland Park Listserv. You'll be able to search All Life Is Local for "contractor," "plumber," "computer tech," "auto body shop" -- whatever you need.
Our whole family sees Deborah Wilson-Umanzor, MD ("Dr. Wilson") for all our ophthalmology needs. I had been seeing Dr. Wilson for several years (for a number of eye problems), and then when I got married, my husband and stepdaughter started to see her as well.
Dr. Wilson is a phenomenal ophthalmologist. She's one of the best doctors around for glaucoma, cataracts and laser surgery, and she's not only great with adults, she's also great with teenagers. When our daughter was 18, she had a severe eye injury, having been hit by a tree branch. She first was seen in the E.R., where (as it turned out) she was prescribed a medicine that actually made her eye worse and impeded the healing process. Immediately following the start of treatment by Dr. Wilson, however, our daughter's eye got better really quickly.
Dr. Wilson has a private practice (Eye One Surgical Associates) located at Georgetown Hospital in the lower level of the Pasquerilla/Gorman complex, but she also holds some Saturday hours at another location in Silver Spring.
You can reach Dr. Wilson's office by calling: (202) 339-0001. Bio: http://tinyurl.com/27zvtff

Dr. Steven Schneid at Uptown Vision is great. 3424 Connecticut Ave NW Washington, DC 20008, 202- 363-2300.

Dr. Douglas Greer at Metro Center is an excellent ophthalmologist. He is not on any insurance plans, but his prices are very reasonable. More important, he is extremely thorough, takes a lot of time with each patient trying to get to the source of their problems, and is willing to see patients at times that suit them (even weekends and holidays). He has been my eye doctor for 30 years and I have been totally satisfied. He is an excellent diagnostician. Phone: 202-244-5422.

I like Dr. Wanda Pak. Dr. Pak likes to establish a relationship with you. She practices in the Medical Building on Mexico Avenue near AU. She is not in a group practice and the office is well run. Her phone number is 202-244-9404.

A big recommendation for Michael Rosenblatt at 18th and K: smart, really thorough, attentive, current on new techniques and products, offers creative solutions, all-around nice guy. And he has a well-run state-of-the-art office (yes, real offices -- not a cubicle in the back of an eyeglasses store) with top-notch staff. I hear his partner there, Jay Klessman, is very good too but I haven't dealt with him. He provides a very extensive check-up (and I just realized I'm overdue for another). 36 For context, I have had and still have various adult vision issues and spent 20 years as a patient at UCLA's world-famous Stein Eye Institute. So I was nervous about finding comparable-level care when I relocated here. I've had some pretty awful medical experiences since coming to DC, but I really lucked out when I found Dr. Rosenblatt and his folks.

Dr. Stephen J. Feinberg, OD, on Eye Street is good at low vision care. 202-887-0327. 1917 I Street Northwest 3rd Floor Washington , DC 20006. He's in a funky old building near Kaz Sushi Bistro.

I just saw my optometrist yesterday, and I am happy to recommend her. Dr. Deneen Zaetta at the GW Medical Faculty Associates. 202-741-2801. She's terrific, and she is also head of the contact lens practice. Since they do not sell glasses, there is no pressure to buy them or trouble getting your prescription: They write you a copy as a matter of course. They do sell contact lenses, but one can get them elsewhere. They are conveniently at GW near the Foggy Bottom Metro, and it does not take long to get an appointment. If you need a referral to an ophthlalmalogist, they are right on site.

We have had great experiences with Eye Doctors of Washington, 2 Wisconsin Circle #200, Chevy Chase MD, (301) 215-7100. They treat both for kids and adults. We have BCBS (which partners with Davis Vision).
---
For a general DO, Doctors Ross and Simon at the For Eyes on 20th and L are excellent. They are very, very good and take most any insurance. 202-640-4823.
---
If you need an actual ophthamologist, Dr. Daniel Pluznik on 20th Street is superb. 202-296-4900.
