Recommended: Lawyers Who Do Wills, Estates & Trusts for a Reasonable Fee

Our companion email list, the Cleveland Park Listserv, is a treasure trove of recommendations. We want to share on All Life Is Local, on a periodic basis, the best recommendations that have been posted on the Cleveland Park Listserv. You'll be able to search All Life Is Local for "contractor," "plumber," "computer tech," "auto body shop" -- whatever you need.

Morris Klein is an attorney in Bethesda who does elderlaw and does wills and estates as well. http://www.morrisklein.com/

I just wanted to recommend highly Dena Feeney in Silver Spring. I have known Dena both personally and professionally for over 30 years. Dena, a DC resident (Brookland) is a highly qualified trust and estate attorney and very active in the community. She also is a very fun and funny person.

I'm not sure about her fees, but I strongly recommend Dena Feeney, 1010 Wayne Avenue, Suite 120, Silver Spring, MD 20910. 301-587-2240

While our attorney, Gerald K. Gimmel, is not in DC (he's north of Exit 11 off I-270), I like him and think he provided good advice.

In 1999, he charged us $800 for the two of us for wills, durable powers of attorney and health care directives. We redid the documents in 2006 and he charged us $1,000 (which I think was a slight discount because we were updating wills he had written).  Here is his contact information:

Gerald K. Gimmel

We used Gerald Gimmel, of Gimmel, Weiman, Ersek & Blomberg, a few years ago and he was extremely reasonable compared to what we  had paid before and was happy to quote upfront the charges: say $100 for a power of attorney. He also suggested a kind of will we had not known (although in dissolving our trust in favor of a will we thought we knew quite a bit). He is in Gaithersburg and we heard about him from a friend who worked for the NEA and heard him talk there; she was impressed by the prices he quoted especially as they had just paid a lot more for very uncomplicated wills .

My wife and I had our wills done by John Laster in Tysons Corner and it was not that expensive. http://www.trusttolast.com/

For "non-standard" estate planning, including large estates and irrevocable  trusts, for example, I suggest you contact John Laster, 703-538-3600 or jll @ trusttolast dot com.

I don't know her price range on this, but we've been working with Michelle Zavos in Silver Spring on other estate issues. Phone 301/562-8220 or  mzavos @ zavoslawgroup.com. Their website is http://www.zavoslawgroup.com.

I know of several estate planning lawyers but they are all in Virginia. It  could be that they also write wills for clients DC, which I suspect is the case. Luke Lenzi is an estate planning attorney in the Old Town area and he's young so odds are he'll be around for the probate should it come to that and possibly his rates are reasonable since he's building his practice from what I understand. Also Wendy Yurackek and James Maloney in Falls Church specialize in estates and they are excellent. I don't know Don, Bill or Rhonda but all three come highly recommended.

Luke Lenzi in Alexandria, (703) 349-2742, luke @ oldtownattorney.com. http://www.oldtownattorney.com

Wendy Yurachek or James Maloney in Falls Church: http://www.maloneylaw.com/yurachek.html

Don Manning or Bill Murray in Arlington at 703-532-5400.

Rhonda MacDonald at 703-917-8777 in McLean.

Our financial advisor of ten years just recommended Debby Cochran.  Here is her website:
