Meeting on How the Health Insurance Exchange Board Will Work, Tuesday, June 21

DC is in the process of setting up a Health Insurance Exchange, a means to enable more people to be able to afford health insurance.

The Mayor’s Health Reform Implementation Committee (HRIC) is holding its second public meeting on Tuesday, June 21st from 3pm - 5pm at the Cleveland Park Library (corner of Macomb Street and Connecticut Avenue). HRIC members are looking to the public to give ideas about how the Health Insurance Exchange program should be governed, and issued the following agenda topics for consideration at the meeting:

* Who should serve on the Exchange Executive Board?
* What experience and qualifications should be required of Board members?
* How should appointments to the Executive Board be made?
* Should the Mayor appoint members with the confirmation of Council?
* Should the Mayor and the Council have a set number of appointees?
* Should some department heads be permanent members of the Executive Board?
* Among the Executive Board, who should have a binding vote?
* What groups should be represented on the Advisory Board(s)?
* How should appointments to Advisory Board(s) be made?
* Should the Executive Board have to consult with advisory board(s) before issuing policies?
* Should members of the Executive Board be compensated?
* Should members of the Advisory Board(s) be compensated?

The HRIC's third public meeting on the subject of “Small Businesses and the Exchange” will be held on June 29th from 6 pm to 8 pm.
