Events This Weekend, June 2 & 3

Glover Park Day, Saturday June 2 from 11AM - 5 PM, Guy Mason Recreation Center, 3600 Calvert St., NW, (corner of Calvert St & Wisconsin Ave]). Live music all day, fabulous food from the local restaurants, t-shirts, all-day-long drawings for gift certificates and special prizes, history table, crafters, flea market plus fun activities for kids.

Saturday, June 2: Chess Challenge in DC is hosting its 1st Citywide Middle School Chess Tournament, 8:30 AM - 4 PM at Woodrow Wilson High School, 3950 Chesapeake Street, NW. Open to all DC middle school-aged children. For more information: www.chesschallengeindc.org

Saturday, June 2 from 10 AM – 1 PM, Bikes for the World Collection at Alice Deal School, 3815 Fort Dr., NW. You can volunteer on June 2 or donate a tax-deductible used bicycle and $10 to help defray shipping costs. Sewing machines, usable bike parts, accessories and tools are also gratefully accepted. Saturday, June, 4 PM, Sounds of Summer jazz piano concert featuring local musical treasure and humorist, John Eaton, at Katzen Arts Center at American University. John's work interprets the American musical composers such as Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Fats Waller. Tickets are $20 at www.nwnv.org or (202) 271-3511. 

Fourth Annual Free Summer Concert Series will begin on Saturday, June 2nd from 5 to 7 pm in the public plaza in front of BB&T Bank at the northeast corner of Columbia Road/Adams Mill Road/18th Street in Adams Morgan. In the event of rain, the concert will be canceled for that day. There will not be a rain date. 

Dupont Circle: Free outdoor concert of the Airmen of Note, the United States Air Force's world-renowned big band Sunday, June 3, 2 PM. Part of the "Jazz 'n the Hoods" series of the DC Jazz Festival, www.dcjazzfest.org

Sunday, June 3, Katzen Arts Center at AU, Second City's A Night of Laughs, a benefit for children of parents with multiple sclerosis. The 5 PM show is 45 minutes of family-friendly entertainment.
