Saturday, August 30 from 10 AM - 10 PM, The National Book Festival, sponsored by the Library of Congress. More than 100 authors, illustrators and poets will make presentations in pavilions dedicated to Children, Teens, Picture Books, Contemporary Life, Culinary Arts, Fiction Mystery, History Biography, Poetry Prose, Science, and Special Programs. Special evening activities include a Poetry Slam, a Graphic Novels Super Session, a Great Books to Great Movies panel and more. Free. At the Walter E. A National Park Service ranger leads a walking tour of the memorials to the liberators of Latin America and will discuss the revolutionary ideas that link them. Tuesday, September 2 from 4 - 5 PM, Calling all "Doctor Who" fans… Announcing the second meeting of the newly formed "Doctor Who" fan club of DC. Discuss the latest developments happening on this 50 year old BBC show and issues surrounding "the Doctor", other important characters and plot lines. Wednesday, September 3 at 6 PM, Microwave Math. This 2-hour workshop will teach you how to calculate the correct cooking time to warm up a single serve portion of leftovers, prepared foods, or whole dinners...and the class doubles as a matchmaker event for singles! Meet at the frozen entrees section of the freezer case at the Georgetown Safeway. No RSVP required for this fun and useful evening, as it is the weekly fake event.

Thursday, September 4 Registration deadline for Georgetown Walking Tour with Cupcakes, which will be held on Saturday Sept 6. Join Dwane Starlin, member of the Guild of Professional Tour Guides, for the annual Dumbarton House signature walking tour of Georgetown - with history and cupcakes! The tour will begin at Dumbarton House and make stops at three cupcake shops in Georgetown- Baked Wired, Sprinkles, and Georgetown Cupcake. The ticket price includes one cupcake from each shop.
