So much to do this weekend. Couldn't decide what to name as the "event of the week" so I'm listing FOUR options -- three on Saturday:
1. Library of Congress Book Festival at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on Saturday, September 6, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (doors open at 8:30 a.m.). The event is free and open to the public. 85 authors, fiction - all genres; non-fiction galore, plus tons of free swag, incluidng posters, totebags, pencils, book marks, kiddie toys, novelties, and more. All the deets at https://www.loc.gov/events/2025-national-book-festival
2. DC State Fair. Saturday, September 6, 10am-5pm, 680 Rhode Island Ave NE (map) It's not the multi-day agricultural extravaganza, like the Montgomery County State Fair. It's small and manageable, a good outing for the whole family. Rides, bad-for-you-but-delicious fairground treats, games, animals, pie competitions. A good time for all.
3. WE ARE ALL DC RALLY and MARCH. Saturday, September 6 from 11am-4pm at Malcolm X (Meridian Hill) Park, 2301 16th St NW. If you are appalled at the idea of our immigrant neighbors being stopped and questioned -- "Your papers, please" -- and even snatched off the street by masked federal agents, come to the WE ARE ALL DC rally and march with a sign. After some speeches and music, the crowd will march down 16th Street to the White House. All participants pledge to make this a peaceful, nonviolent protest. And this one on Sunday:
4. Takoma Park Folk Festival. Sunday, September 7, 2025, 10:30am-6:00pm at Takoma Park Middle School, 7611 Piney Branch Road, Takoma Park, MD 20912. Takoma Park Folk Festival is a family-friendly music and arts festival featuring a varied lineup of musical performers, artisans who will be participating the juried craft show and offering their works for sale, lots of community tables hosted by your local organizations, and all kinds of activities at the Children's Nook, starting at 10:30 with a children's parade around the school with noisemakers for all.
