2nd District Police Report: This Week in Crime

Starting today we are running a new feature highlighting crimes from the Second District Metropolitan Police Report. Police officers submit these write-up in their brief jargon (P/P for "pickpocket," PBS for "pocketbook snatch," ADW for "assault with a deadly weapon, etc.) but we will spell out all abbreviations and add headers to put the essence of the crime into standard English.

This week's crime report included: a ladder-snatch, a kick-fest by a gang of young teens (or even pre-teens) that sent the mugging victim to the hospital, an a gun arrest (OK, it's just a BB gun) outside Whole Foods in Glover Park.

One of the suspects then searched the victim's pockets and removed a cell phone and the victim's wallet. After the robbery, two of the suspects fled north on Conn. Ave. and the two fled east on Brandywine St. The victim suffered extensive injury to his face and was transported to the hospital.

The 4 suspects are described as follows:
#1-Black/Male, 12-15 years, wearing a black hat, blue pants and a white shirt

Gun Scare at Tenleytown Whole Foods

This event was called in to the Metropolitan Police as a "Man with a Gun"

Upon arrival on the scene officers stopped an individual that matched the description given in the broadcast lookout. The individual was cooperative, and after being advised about the reason he was being stopped, voluntarily allowed law enforcement members to look into his backpack. Inside the bag was a very realistic looking BB pistol. The stopped individual advised that against his directions a friend of his pulled it out of his backpack to look at it.

The locations and description of his friend was consistent with witness accounts given to the police. The stopped subject was an adult and the BB pistol was not loaded and was secured in his backpack at the time of the stop. The Second District Watch Commander responded to the scene and search MPD data bases for any robberies or crimes of violence in the area for the two weeks prior to the stop. There were no listings with matching descriptions.
