"Americana August," a music festival of American hospitality and togetherness, brings together several bands, singer-songwriters, events, and food options. The first event starts at 8pm on Friday, August 3, featuring Lulu Mae of and local favorite Wendell Kimbrough. Enter your best homemade pies to win a prize in the pie baking contest. The second event on August 4 includes a bluegrass picnic at 11:30am (12 noon show) with the Honey Dewdrops ($10 cover). Iced tea and lemonade provided, and a food truck will have food for purchase. Come to Dog Day on Saturday, August 4 at the farmer's market at 14th and U Streets. There will be entertainment, sales, fruit, foods, free bags and fans. There will be musicians from 10 AM to 1 PM. You'll find homemade buscuits for dogs and much more.
If you're looking for a good time and great food this weekend you're in luck: Glover Park-Burleith Farmers Market, Saturday, August 4, 9 AM - 1 PM at the Hardy Middle School parking lot, Wisconsin Ave & 34th Street, NW. Korean food truck (11 am - 1 pm). King Street Bluegrass Band, Free bike clinic (10 AM - 1 PM). Face-painting. Hula hoops. And all the best local fruit, veggies, meat, cheese, bread, and more, brought by the nonprofit DC Greens, www.dcgreens.org.
"A Musical Summer" at Tenley-Friendship Library presents the 1972 Oscar-winning film "Cabaret" with Liza Minnelli and Michael York, 2 PM. Free. The library is at the corner of Albemarle Street and Wisconsin Avenue.
Blue Sky Puppets presents "Goldy Bear and the Three Locks" at 10:30 AM at the Palisades Library (4901 V Street NW) and at 1:30 PM at the Georgetown Library, 3260 R Street, NW. Free.
Monday, August 6: Monday matinee movie, "Good Hair," 1:30 PM. In this movie, comedian Chris Rock visits beauty salons, barbershops and hairstyling battles to explore the very personal issue of hair and how it can impact African Americans. Celebrate National Night Out with the Second District Police station on Tuesday August 7 from 5 - 7 PM. There will be free car seat checks and installations, safety tips, McGruff the crime dog, a clown, hot dogs and ice cream. The Second District is located at 3320 Idaho Avenue, NW.
Northeast Performing Arts Group presents "Fame", a dansical told through the eyes of vibrant, multi-ethnic, energetic young people who are inspired to achieve their goal of fame! Friday, August 10, 11:30 AM for camps, city officials, and senior citizens, $7.00 per person. Friday, August 10, 7:30 PM – general admission, $15 in advance/$20 at the door. On Saturday, August 11, join DC Sail at the Gangplank Marina for the 5th Annual Cantina Cup Regatta, an event that attracts sailors from all over the Mid-Atlantic region. Cantina Cup features a full day of sailing. Over 100 participating sailors will race DC Sail's Lasers, FJs, and Flying Scots. Money raised supports DC Sail's educational programs.
