Roz Chast for the Library of Congress National Book Festival |
by Peggy Robin
Today’s message is simple. It’s the National Book Festival,
the event that makes you glad you live in Washington and don’t go away for the
Labor Day Weekend. Your favorite author might be there. If not, some lesser
known author who might well become
your favorite is there, waiting to be discovered.
Go hear a panel discussion of veterans’ oral histories, line up
for a signed book, hear the “Poetry Out Loud” recitals/competition, watch a
cookbook author show you how to do something in person that you will later
attempt to recreate on your home stove (good luck!), take your kids to hear a
story read aloud by the author. Get a free poster, a free totebag, a whole stack of free
bookmarks and mousepads and who knows what else. Go and explore! The
WoB (World of Books) awaits. And it’s all free!
At the Washington Convention Center, 801 Mount Vernon Place
NW.
