Wilson HS Fundraisers at Politics & Prose and Comet Ping Pong March 5 & 6

Next Saturday and Sunday, March 5th and 6th, Politics & Prose Bookstore and Comet Ping Pong will be supporting the Wilson High School Book Fair.  The bookstore will donate 20 percent of all book fair revenue to the Wilson Parent Teacher Student Association. In addition, the store will have lists compiled by Wilson teachers and librarians of books the school needs.

Bookstore customers can either purchase books for themselves, or purchase books from the Wilson staff wish list -- either way will result in donations to the school. Politics and Prose is located on Connecticut Avenue near the intersection of Nebraska Avenue.

Finally, there will be coupons at the book fair that you can use at neighborhood pizza restaurant, Comet Ping Pong. Comet Ping Pong will donate to Wilson 15 percent of its revenue from customers with coupons who dine any time on Saturday or Sunday, March 5 and 6.

School Without Walls Fundraiser at Politics & Prose Bookstore, Sat., Feb. 5

School Without Walls is a four year public college preparatory high school that draws its 470 students from all eight wards of the District of Columbia.  Please show your support for them at the School Without Walls Book Fair on Saturday, February 5 at Politics and Prose Bookstore, 5015 Connecticut Avenue, NW.

A representative from the school will be there to show you which books that teachers would like to see in the library for their students.  If you mention you are a School Without Walls supporter at checkout, 20% of your purchase will be donated to the School Without Walls Home and school Association.

Horizons Benefit at Politics & Prose on Saturday, Nov. 20

The Horizons Program of Greater Washington is a six-week summer enrichment program and school year Saturday program that helps a diverse population of children from low-income families to advance academically and develop a lifelong interest in learning.

This Saturday, November 20 from 9am to 9pm, Politics and Prose Bookstore, 5051 Connecticut Avenue, NW, is hosting the fifth annual book sale in support of the Horizons Program. Politics and Prose will donate 20% from the sales of books, CDs, and gifts items to Horizons. You can also purchase and donate a book from the Horizons Wish List (pdf format).

This is a great weekend to begin your holiday shopping – or perhaps you would like to browse for a book to read during the Thanksgiving holiday. Either way, your purchase will directly support Horizons. You must present a voucher for your sale to qualify; vouchers will be available at the cash registers at Politics and Prose on the 20th.

Buy a Book or Two and Support Alice Deal School This Weekend

This Saturday and Sunday, November 6 and 7, you can support Alice Deal Middle School by buying a book (or a few) at Politics and Prose, 5015 Connecticut Avenue. Deal receives 20% of the price of all books purchased on those days by customers who give the store a paper at checkout that asks for a portion of their purchase to be donated to Deal. Before you shop pick up the "support for Deal" paper from the Alice Deal table on the lower level of the store.

Carla Cohen, Co-Founded Politics and Prose, Has Died

We have sad news: TBD reports that Carla Cohen, 74, has died of cancer of the bile ducts. The Washington Post has more about her life here.

Politics and Prose, located at 5015 Connecticut Avenue, NW, was founded in 1984, and is regarded as one of the countries best independent bookstores. Politics and Prose is currently up for sale.
