Recommended: Regular Dentists and Dental Implant Dentists

All Life Is Local has a companion listserv, www.cleveland-park.com, which regularly receives queries from members looking for recommendations. From time to time on All Life Is Local, we like to post a compilation of recent, helpful recommendations on a particular topic on the listserv -- in this case, dentists.

I have a great dentist right in this area. And he really listens to your concerns, as well as being great dentist. It is Jeffrey Almo at 3601 Connecticut (in the Broadmoor apartment building). His partner, Dr. Selvaggio also is very good. It is a wonderful practice. I should know, I have been to several dentists in the area.  The phone number is (202) 362-5596; his website is http://almoandselvaggio.bravehost.com.

I recommend McDermott, Gianini and Gray at the corner of Wisconsin and Davenport. A fantastic group of dentists and hygienists. I've ben using the practice for over 25 years. The number is 202-244-4111.
--

I would highly recommend Peter P. Michael DDS, who has been my dentist for several years. I found him through Consumer Checkbook and the Washingtonian Best Dentists lists. He is located at 5100 Connecticut Avenue, NW (Connecticut and Nebraska). Call 202-363-1337. He accepts MetLife.
--

I highly recommend Eugene (Gene) Giannini. He repaired a chip on my front teeth years ago and they look as good as new. His number is 202-244-4111 and his office is on Wisconsin Avenue across from Martens Volvo.
--

My family goes to Dr. Stan Shulman on Mass Avenue. His number is 202-966-3900. If you need sedation, call Dr. Meltzer in Aspen Hill, 301-871-8880. He did extensive work on my teeth. They are both wonderful.
--

My wife and I have been patients of Dr. Jim Louie for 25 years. He takes BCBS PPO. Dr. Louie is careful, considerate, and provides great personal attention. He is a solo practitioner and does not use a hygienist. His referrals to oral surgeons and other specialists have been superb. He charges less than most large practices for non-covered items like crowns. I give him my highest recommendation. His office is at Farragut West. Contact details: 1800 I St NW #802, Washington D.C., DC 20006-5407, (202) 383-0095.

I recommend the Washington Center for Dentistry on K Street. My dentist is Marc Doctors, who is genial, knowledgeable and professional in every way (as is the entire staff at WCD): http://www.washdent.com/.
I've had two implants done at two separate times. Be aware that this process involves an oral surgeon/ endodontist along with a regular dentist. Washington Center for Dentistry is a team of dental professionals in one practice, one location. Your records are in the same office, your bill in the same office, everything is cohesive and seamless, and furthermore, they're convenient to bus and metro at K & 14th. (My first implant required that I go to offices in Springfield, in downtown DC, at the Watergate, and in Bethesda. It shouldn't have to be like that.)

Thank you to everyone who replied to my request for recommendations for dentists who do implants. This listserv is a wonderful resource. Here are the replies I received:

Dr. Georganne Apgar is fantastic. 5454 Wisconsin Ave #620, Chevy Chase, MD 301-652-3355 , in nearby Chevy Chase/Friendship Heights. Suggested twice.

Steven Kaufman, DMD at 1145 19th Street NW, suite 707, 202-223-2211.

Dr. Clarence Lindquist, http://www.omsusa.com . Recommended by three people.

Dr Garry Miller who is a DC periodontist, 1747 Pennsylvania Ave NW, 202-298-6111.

I've had good experience with Dr. Gerard Bouquel, 1350 Connecticut Avenue #305, 202-887-5441.

Dr Jeffrey Singer in DuPont Circle is exceptional and has lots of implant experience, 2111 Phelps Place NW, 20008, 202-265-0525.

Michael Stiglitz is excellent. He's done 5 implants plus periodontal surgery. 2311 M St NW #500 Washington, DC 202-296-3360

Dr. Robert Tigani has been my dentist for at least 15 years. He has done a couple of caps for me and has done a beautiful job. I know he does implants. 202-223-2028.

Recommended: Oral Surgeons

Our companion email list, the Cleveland Park Listserv, is a treasure trove of recommendations. We want to share on All Life Is Local, on a periodic basis, the best recommendations that have been posted on the Cleveland Park Listserv. You'll be able to search All Life Is Local for "contractor," "plumber," "doctor," "computer tech," "auto body shop" -- whatever you need.

What follows is a compilation of the oral surgeons our neighbors referred. I left messages over the weekend and received a very prompt response from Dr. Gustavo Mongelos, who actually examined me on Saturday morning, took x-rays, prescribed antibiotics for the infection, and will extract my tooth later this week. His office was impeccably clean and his staff cordial, warm, and professional. I was extremely impressed with Dr. Mongelos professionalism and the sophistication of the technological equipment.

1. My dentist Dr Shub works right on Van Ness. He is a one stop shop and does everything himself from fillings, cleanings, root canals, extractions and crowns and is extremely gentle. Here is a link to his information. My wife and 11 yr old son both go to him as well.

2.. I went to Travis Patterson of Whiston, Patterson & Corcoran in Arlington when my root canal failed. I remember the extraction as being surprisingly inexpensive -- maybe $300? Of course, the treatment plan for the replacement implant is much more, but he was good with the extraction.

3. My stepdaughter just had all 4 of her wisdom teeth -- two of which were severely impacted (one sideways, in fact) -- removed last month. The total cost, including anesthesia was just about $2000., which we thought was very reasonable, due to the fact that this was done by an oral surgeon who's top notch.

Wonderful wonderful dentists are Drs. Selvaggio and Almo (telephone 202-362-5596). Their office is in the Broadmoor on Connecticut. Avenue. I have been going to Dr. Selvaggio for the past 8 years after some disastrous experiences with "plan" dentists.

I highly recommend Dr Jeffrey Gitelman in the Dupont Circle neighborhood in DC. 202-223-3391. He is an amazing surgeon. He worked on my son who had an emergency several years ago. He is also a great guy, and is very empathetic.

I have had three implants with Dr. David Schneider, 301-652-9295, and I strongly recommend him. He is an outstanding dentist and was one of the first in the area (perhaps in the country) to perform implants when they were a brand now innovation in dentistry.

Good Morning: Blowing Hot and Cold

After a relatively warm Sunday, today's high will be only about 31 degrees. Watch your step out there because it may be icy. Tuesday and Wednesday will be warmer, and the temperature on those days matters: There's a potent storm heading our way, and right now it looks like mostly rain. Mostly. Tuesday's storm may start off with snow and ice, but not in "snow day" amounts.

Today's deal: a 3-pack of Glide dental floss for $18.09 -- a savings of 24% (the regular price is $23.96). You know you're going to need it (and hopefully use it), so you might as well grab this great deal by clicking here.
