Purim Festival and Bone Marrow Drive in Silver Spring on March 20

Come to the Ohev Sholom Purim Festival and Parade in downtown Silver Spring on Sunday, March 20 from 12 - 3 PM.  In addition to fun and games for kids, there will be a Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation Drive to help 15-month-old, Ayelet Galena, who was recently diagnosed with a rare blood disorder and is in need of a bone marrow transplant. Registering as a potential bone marrow donor is as easy as a simple cheek swab!

The parade, featuring Mordechai's Royal Horses, starts at 908 Ellsworth Drive between Fenton Street and Georgia Avenue. There will be a moon bounce, inflatable obstacle course, magic show (starting at 2:15pm), pony rides, delicious hamentaschen (the traditional treat shown in the photo), carnival games and prizes, face painting, eco-arts and crafts, a live DJ, raffle, and more!

The festival is open and free to all.

8 AM Parade in Brookland on Saturday. Say What?

DCist reports that there was a parade today in the Brookland neighborhood at 8am. The parade apparently was a "football parade." When you're woken up at 8am on a Saturday by a parade, there's not much else to do other than tweet about it, and here's how one early morning riser reported the parade: "Awoken by sirens and screaming and yelling. Was a football parade at 8am." Another surprised Brookland resident tweeted, "Can't believe there was a parade going through #Brookland at 8am this morning."

We're not entirely sure what a football parade is, but we are very sure that nobody should have a neighborhood parade at 8am on a weekend. Ever.
