DC Car Thief Nabbed by Police

by Lindsay Chastain

The Metropolitan Police Department has scored a success in catching a would-be car thief. Late Wednesday night, officers observed a man in the 1300 block of L Street NW peering into cars late last night. As they approached him, he immediately ran away, disposing of a handgun as he fled. Police followed him and found him hiding in a dumpster. He was arrested early Thursday morning for possession of a firearm and marijuana.

There has been an increase in theft, stolen vehicles, assaults with a deadly weapon, and burglary in the area the past few days. Make sure you always lock your doors and windows --to both your car and home-- as well as be aware of your surroundings when walking alone or at night.
