Good Morning: Let's Toast 1881

Sunny. 65 degrees. It's not shorts weather, but for November, not bad at all.

On this day in 1881 the first Women's Christian Temperance Union meeting was held in Boston. The Eighteenth Amendment to the Constitution was ratified on November 16, 1919.  Only Connecticut and Rhode Island's state legislatures opposed the Eighteenth Amendment, which said, "After one year from the ratification of this article the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors within, the importation thereof into, or the exportation thereof from the United States and all territory subject to the jurisdiction thereof for beverage purposes is hereby prohibited."

The Eighteenth Amendment was repealed by the Twenty First Amendment, which was ratified in 1933.
