A poster on the Cleveland Park Listserv recently asked for recommendations for a relatively inexpensive Italian restaurant, not a big bustling place that's part of a chain. In other words, not Maggiano's, Carmine's, or Buca DiBeppo. List members responded with some great choices in Cleveland Park, Dupont Circle, and Van Ness. Enjoy!
"Relatively inexpensive" is a relative thing I guess, but you need not look any further than Sorriso. Order a pizza from their wood burning oven and plan on taking half home -- you get two meals for the price of one. The pizzas that come out of Sorriso's wood burning oven have no peers in Washington, DC; you feel as if you're being transported to Italy when you eat one.

I recommend La Tomate on Connecticut Avenue, just north of Dupont Circle. I often go there for lunch but it's good for dinner too.

Dino is our absolute favorite in Cleveland Park --wonderful quality, fresh everything, and a great e-mail newsletter.

I love the many wonderful Italian restaurants in Cleveland Park, but they tend to be on the expensive side. When I want a good, authentic Italian meal for a reasonable price, my go-to choice is Tesoro in the Van Ness area.
