Humane Society Drop-Box to Collect Needed Items for Animal Shelter July 18-23

Ward III Council Member Mary Cheh, an avid supporter of animal welfare, sends this call for items currently needed at the Washington Humane Society animal shelter:

Recently, I toured the Washington Humane Society (WHS) shelter on New York Avenue NW to inspect the conditions of the facility and see the many animals that are temporarily calling the shelter home. The WHS is doing an amazing job protecting the animals and trying to find them permanent homes; however, they are also in great need of many staple items. While I have listed below the types of items needed by the shelter, among the most basic is old sheets and towels that the animals can use for bedding.

While any donations of the needed supplies are welcome, I believe that at the very least, we as a community can provide bedding for these needy animals. If you are able to make a donation, bring your items to:

Washington Humane Society Drop Box July 18-23
Tenley-Friendship Heights Library
4450 Wisconsin Avemue NW

Or:

The Palisades Library
4901 V Street NW

Items needed by the Washington Humane Society:
  • Linens (towels, sheets, blankets)
  • Cat toys
  • Dog busy toys (or chew toys like Nyla bones)
  • Kongs (all sizes)
  • Martingale Collars (1" thick)
  • Leashes
  • Kuranda beds (dogs and cats)
  • Feliway
  • Nail clippers
  • Cat trees

The items will be collected on a daily basis during this week. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Anthony Lopez of my staff at alopez @ dccouncil.us.

Regards and thanks very much,
