What's the Strangest Thing Ever Given Away on the Cleveland Park Listserv?

One of the great things about the Cleveland Park Listserv is that you never know what people are going to give away next.  Week in and week out, there are bookcases, sofas, desks, chairs, beds, bed frames, TVs, computers, books, magazines, diapers, and lots of other valuable things that somebody doesn't want or need anymore, offered for free to anyone who can pick it up and haul it away.

But every now and again there's something a little out of the ordinary up for grabs. Here are some of the most interesting ones from just the past 12 months:

big juicy crickets (to feed to a pet snake or lizard)
a worm farm
a one-and-a-quarter ton hydraulic jack
children's bowling balls
a 1940's ceramic stove
an old Burroughs adding machine
a shortwave radio
a webcam
jelly jars
mason jars
sand for a sandbox
My Little Ponies (we hope these are toy ponies!)
a 4 ft. x 6 ft. greenhouse
a 20 gallon fishtank (no fish)
elderberry liqueur
Haggadahs (or is that Haggadot?)
a bird cage
a trampoline
kitchen cabinets
shawal kamis (traditional Pakistani dresses)
font balls for an IBM Selectric II
landscaping rocks
flowers (day lilies, chrysanthemums)
a pair of parakeets
...and a cat tree!

  1. I run a Freecycle group in MD, and we've had some strange offers: a house, a doublewide trailer, horse trailer, 2 tons of fill dirt, 700 baby food jars (really? I want to see the size of THAT kid!) 28 boxes of tile (what were they thinking?!?) a dictaphone, punch card machine, 4 flat tires and a shredded spare, a fishing boat with a huge hole in the bottom. Honestly, I could go on and on! :o)
