Compilation of Handymen

All Life Is Local has a companion listserv, www.cleveland-park.com, which regularly receives queries from members looking for recommendations. From time to time on All Life Is Local, we like to post a compilation of recent, helpful recommendations on a particular topic on the listserv -- in this case, handymen. (We would say " handy persons" but it happens that those recommended below are all males.)

I would like to recommend Steven Van Eynde as a carpenter/handyman. He works cleanly, carefully, and accurately, and he lives in our neighborhood. You may contact him at: 202-364-6109; Cell: 202-250-4113 emwgroup @ rcn.com.

I want to give a shout out for a neighbor who does exemplary work. Greg Coe is "Fat Guy With a Hammer." We've had him come to two different homes now and he did a beautiful job hanging several items for us (including a heavy mirror and wall fireplace in 1920's drywall) and fixing various items (e.g. closet doors). His website is www.fatguywithahammer.com.

Call Luke Stewart, 301-404-2984. He does all kinds of handy work. He can also redo your kitchen and baths, paint your house, build shelves, whatever you need. He does great work and is extremely reliable. Many of my clients have used him and are happy with his services.

You should check with my go-to guy, Mike Smith, 301-807-5240. As I've often stated in these pages, Mike is a great all-around handyman, creative, reliable, skilled and trustworthy. Explain your problem to him and he'll give you an honest assessment of whether he can fix it.

Wayne Fisher (202) 232-3781 He's extremely responsive, practical, offers inventive solutions, reasonably
priced, and a nice person.

--

Pete Wieczorowski, pwiecz @ verizon.net, He's done great work for us of every sort and he's not only reliable but very pleasant.

I'm happy to recommend an excellent carpenter/housepainter/handyman, David Warren. He paints interiors as well as exteriors, specializes in old windows with fine, decorative framework. He has twenty-five years' experience, has done excellent work for me, and extensive painting here at Cathedral Park, as well as
carpentry for the Smithsonian. He is thorough, meticulous, responsible and articulate. We've found his prices very reasonable. He's a general handyman as well. His contact number is 703-597-7382 and his email address is lamp @ post.com.

Chuck Woolery is really good. He's great at major and minor jobs and is extremely affordable:  chuck @ igc.org

Fredy Gramendez is wonderful. He can do almost anything and will say when he can't. He has been working for my aunt (a Chevy Chase DC resident) for years and recently for us. He can be reached at 240-472-3832.

Try my handyman -- he is great and I honestly don't know how I found this gem. His work is amazing and his prices are very reasonable. The man can do just about anything. Jorge (pronounced Hor-hee): 202/438-4612 (cell)

We use Rick Ruggles: 202-309-4529. He is very good and used to build homes so has a good handle on many different issues in a home.
