Hazardous Waste Drop-off Now Available the First Thursday of Each Month

In a recent email exchange on the Brightwood listserv, Department of Public Works spokesperson Kevin Twine confirmed that the first Thursday of each month will become a hazardous waste/e-cycling day at the Fort Totten, in addition to the first Saturday of each month. Here's the question on the listserv, followed by the answer:

In a recent letter, DPW Director William Howland agreed to add a weekday afternoon for household hazardous recycling at the Ft. Totten transfer station, with an expected start date of Thursday, August 4th (this Thursday). This change was prompted by a letter to the DC Attorney General from Micah Salb noting that the city's practice placed an unreasonable burden on those for whom Saturday is a religious day, on which driving is prohibited. Since I have not seen any notifications about this, can one of our public officials on this list please confirm this is still happening?

And here's the answer from DPW Staff Assistant Kevin Twine:

DPW will be collecting Household Hazardous Waste and E-Cycling from 1 - 7pm on Thursday, August 4, at the Ft. Totten Transfer Station. Document shredding will take place on the first Saturday of the month only.
