Your Invitation to Chevy Chase Day on Saturday -- From 3 Clowns

Who couldn't resist this invitation to clown around on Chevy Chase Day this Saturday? It comes from "Clown Judy," one of three volunteer clowns (and a Cleveland Park neighbor) who will be performing on September 17 at this free community event. (And mark your calendars now for next month's Cleveland Park Day on October 1st.)
"Clown Gary" and I ("Clown Judy"), along with our friend "Clown Laura" Marvel, will be volunteering as clowns for Chevy Chase Day (see details below) this Saturday afternoon, September 17, starting at 1 PM on Connecticut Avenue near the corner of Livingston Street NW. We will be making balloon hats and balloon animals and performing silly magic tricks.

The three of us will also be volunteering as clowns for Cleveland Park Day on Saturday afternoon, October 1, starting at 1 PM in the parking lot in front of Petco at the corner of Connecticut Avenue and Ordway Streets NW. Here is a link to the flier for Cleveland Park Day, showing photos of us (with my younger sister: "Clown Susie") at last year's Cleveland Park Day.

Please celebrate with us!

Now here's the official announcement of Chevy Chase Day:

The Chevy Chase Citizens Association is sponsoring Chevy Chase DC Day, on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 1 to 4 pm. Join your neighbors for a celebration of our community!

The Association will provide treats and activities, including free ice cream and free music, at the Chevy Chase Commons outside the Chevy Chase Community Center (5601 Connecticut Avenue, NW). We will be serving Moorenko's ice cream. Alongside us, the Avalon Theatre will serve free samples of a special local flavor ice cream and residents can enter a contest to name the flavor. SmithJackson, a local musical duo that performs an eclectic mix of folk, rock, and blue grass, is scheduled for 3:00 pm.

Also on the Commons, the Chevy Chase DC Library staff plans to provide an outside arts and crafts table for children, from 1 to 4 pm, and an outdoor children's story time, at 1:30 pm. The Chevy Chase DC Friends of the Library will be giving away free books. Child's Play plans to sponsor a moonbounce. In addition, local non-profit organizations, including the Avalon Theatre, Chevy Chase DC Friends of the Library, the Friends of Chevy Chase Park, the Friends of Lafayette Park, the Friends of Rock Creek's Environment, Historic Chevy Chase DC, and Northwest Neighbors Village, will distribute information about their activities. The Community Center staff will also be providing information about the center's upcoming fall classes.

Along Connecticut Avenue and neighboring streets, there will be business promotions, artist displays, non-profit organizations, and sidewalk sales. Participating businesses so far include Arucola Osteria Italiana, the Avalon Theatre, Blue 44, Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits, Circle Exxon, Child's Play, Circle Yoga, Finials, Full of Beans, Home Made Pizza Company, Long & Foster, Monarch Paint, Periwinkle, Potomac Video, PNC Bank, Pumpernickel's Deli, Ramer's Shoes, Safeway, Simple & Quick Medical Care, State Farm Insurance, Starbucks, Taylor Agostino Group Real Estate, and Write For You. Special thanks are due to 202Design for designing the poster for the event.

Come out, enjoy the activities, and support our local businesses. For more details, visit Chevy Chase Citizens Association.
