On Tuesday we learned that the fight to control the marketing phrase "Taco Tuesday" is over and those two words now belong to us all (Taco John's had claimed exclusive commercial use but earlier this week dropped their lawsuit against Taco Bell).
Now that we call can freely declare it's Taco Tuesday, I got to thinking how we've come to characterize the other six days of the weed,.
Here's what I've got.so far:
We all know Monday is Manic Monday. It was so named by The Bangles in 1986.
Tuesday, as said at the outset, can now be hailed by all as Taco Tuesday.
Wednesday is, of course, Hump Day.-- and you may remember those Geico commercials that capitalized on the universality of the phrase: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LtjzQaFZ3k
Thursday is Throwback Thursday - and you don't need to be a hashtag user to enjoy the nostalgia-inducing photos of the storied past, posted on social media by all kinds of companies, organizations, schools, and institutions on this day of the week.
Friday is TGIF -- and don't you wish that crappy chain restaurant had never been allowed to coopt those initials as their brand name?
Let's skip over Saturday, for now.
For Sunday. now we're back to the Bangles, and you can say (or sing!): "That's my FunDay."
And now to the problem of Saturday. Oh, there's no shortage of iconic songs about Saturday Night, including:
Saturday Night Fever by The BeeGees
Saturday Night by the Bay City Rollers
Saturday Night's All Right (for Fighting) by Elton John
(Just Another) American Saturday Night by Brad Paisley
Another Saturday Night (and I Ain't Got Nobody) by Sam Cooke
Saturday Night Is the Loneliest Night by Frank Sinatra
But you see the problems: A) These songs are limited to the nighttime; there's no iconic SaturDAY song that jumps to mind and sticks in your head as an earworm. And B) These songs are all ambivalent to outright negative about this day.
Well, I have no easy answer for this conundrum. If you have a meme, theme song, or phrase for this day, I'm all ears!
