Recommended: Everyone You Need to Sell Your House

Our companion email list, the Cleveland Park Listserv, is a treasure trove of recommendations. We want to share on All Life Is Local, on a periodic basis, the best recommendations that have been posted on the Cleveland Park Listserv. You'll be able to search All Life Is Local for "contractor," "plumber," "computer tech," "auto body shop" -- whatever you need. The search box, in case you have trouble finding it, is to the right and down a bit.
It may take a village to raise a child, but after recently selling our house, I think it takes a village to sell a house and move. We were so lucky to have tremendous help, much of which I found through this listserv. Thinking it might be helpful to some, I compiled a list of recommendations to help those who might be in similar situations.
We had help with house painting (both interior and exterior), a handyman, window washers, de-cluttering and moving, as well as an inspection and a real estate agent for the sale, all of whom I would highly recommend.
For painting, we used Orlando Angel, whose name I found through this listserv. Orlando was such a pleasure to work with and really came through for us. We were on a tight timeline, wanting to get our house on the market as quickly as possible. He insured a quick turn around by having plenty of workers on the job. He and his crew were careful, had a high level of attention to detail and were reasonably priced. Orlando can be reached at oeangel @ aol.com.
For handyman type help, we used Gocha Tkabladze, whose name I also got from this listserv a number of years ago. Gocha is also a really great person to work with, is extremely meticulous and did all the odds and ends I should have taken care of years ago. He also completed the work in a timely manner and was reasonably priced. Gocha can be reached at botsora @ yahoo.com.
For window washing, we used Tony's Services at (301) 384-1822. I would also highly recommend them and they were almost half the price of what I have paid before for window cleaning.
For de-cluttering, organizing and presentation help, we used Laurie Zook with Mission Transition. Laurie will do just about anything you need her to -- from an estate sale type move where she does almost everything to what I used her for -- help paring down so your house shows well. She has equally fantastic people that she works with and is able to get things done quickly. Laurie can be reached at (301) 332-5585 or you can view her website at www.missiontransition.net.
For movers, I got three bids from companies all highly recommended on this listserv. The bids were all very competitive, but we went with Town & Country Movers because of their outstanding reputation. We were not disappointed -- it was hands down the easiest move I have ever done. For more information, such as contact information, go to www.townandcountrymovers.com.
For inspection, we used Chuck Itte with Itte Associates. We wanted a house inspection prior to putting the house on the market for a couple of reasons. First, it gave me a "to do" list and second, it helped us figure out what if anything should be sold "as is." Chuck did a thorough, but not overly picky inspection and gave us great advice. In the end, his inspection made the house sale so much easier and smoother. He can be reached at (301) 754-1777.
And last, but not least, we really enjoyed working with our real estate agent, Marjorie Dick Stuart with Randall Hagner. For me, Marjorie was the perfect combination of hand-holder (selling a house is extremely stressful!) and professional, whose advice was spot on. I know people often request the names of real estate agents on this listserv (in fact there was one fairly recently). Not only would I highly recommend Marjorie, I'd tell you would be crazy not to consider using her. Marjorie can be reached at (240) 731-8079.
