Good Morning: Finally, Snow

The technical term for today's weather: a mess. While the high might reach the upper 30's, we're going to see snow, possibly a fair amount, by the end of the day. The timing and exact track and even the quantity are still uncertain, but the snow that we get will probably be of the heavy, wet kind -- the type of snow that brings down power lines.

Today's deal: Nothing warms the winter blues quite like a piping-hot bowl of broth overflowing with steamed mussels scented by the unmistakable aroma of garlic. At Mussel Bar -- voted Best New Restaurant by Bethesda Magazine readers -- those wide-mouthed bivalves are fresh, large, and bursting with flavor, and today's deal scores you a meal: Pay $15 and get $30 toward lunch, or pay $20 for $40 at dinner at this latest venture from chef Robert Wiedmaier (Marcel's, Brasserie Beck, and Brabo).

Located just three short blocks from the Bethesda Metro on Woodmont Avenue, Mussel Bar takes its beers as seriously as its food, so you can enjoy your marvelous moules marinieres and yummy pomme frites with a crisp Belgian beer from the more than 100 Mussel Bar offered. Still hungry? Fill up on one of Wiedmaier's warm, wood-fired tarts (AKA: Belgian pizzas) with local, seasonal toppings, or a hardy entrée like the Beck's Beef Stew or bucatini and clams. You'll leave with a full belly, rosy cheeks, and the fortitude to face the freezing temps -- albeit, whenever you actually decide to leave.
