Another Attempted Carjacking in Brookland

On Friday we reported on an attempted carjacking in Brookland. We just learned that there was another attempted carjacking at gunpoint in Brookland on Thursday, November 4th. What's especially scary is that attempted carjacking took place in front of the victim's home. Here is that report:
I am writing to relate my neighbor's harrowing experience at around 6:00 on Thursday so that others in the vicinity can be careful. She lives on Jackson near 15th, and came home from work this evening to see two young men looking to be around 16 years of age at her property line. One approached her car and initially asked for directions, but then pulled a gun and ordered her out of the car. She reached for her phone and they both ran. Police arrived on the scene in minutes and she was unharmed, though quite shaken.

Attempted Carjacking in Brookland

There was an attempted carjacking in Brookland last night. Here is the chilling account of what happened. It ended okay --nobody was hurt and the car wasn't stolen-- but the bad guys had a gun and the outcome could have been very different.  One of the possible reasons that this location was chosen by the carjackers is that it was dark -- not only because it was night but because the street light was out.
File this under I never thought it would happen to us. Two individuals attempted to carjack my husband with a gun right in front of our house tonight. He turned and ran down the street, they thankfully did not give chase. He called 911 and cops came right away. While he was with the cops, an attempted carjacking happened elsewhere on Monroe, two individuals as well.
The perps hid in our ally, which has been without a light for a week. I called the mayor's call center last week to fix it. Is there anyone on this list who can help me get that done now? Between this incident and the attempted house break-in a few months ago and the ongoing prostitution issues, my little neck of the woods is becoming a bit dicey for me.
This happened on Monroe Street, NE between Rhode Island Avenue and Clinton.
Neighbors, be safe out there and keep your porch lights on.

Carjackings and Car Thefts Continue in Southeast DC

by Lindsay Chastain

The most recent in a series of carjackings in Southeast DC occurred on Tuesday, October 5 at 10:47pm in the 2600 block of 33rd Street.  In this latest case, the stolen car was retrieved. Police say that it's the same group of carjackers committing these crimes, and their usual M.O. is to target females who are alone at night.

The suspects are two black men in their early to mid 20’s, about 5’11, both wearing ski masks and dark clothes. These men are armed and dangerous, so be alert and cautious when getting or out of your car.

What can you do? The Metropolitan Police Department advises you to secure your vehicle, locking all doors and closing all windows once in the vehicle, park in a well-lit area, and stay alert. If you have any information, call 202-727-1000, and if you need immediate assistance, dial 911.
