The re-opening of Peirce Mill, the Rock Creek Park landmark, will be celebrated with a Harvest Day on the site at Beach Drive/Tilden Street, NW, on Saturday, October 15, from 10am-4pm.There will be tours of the mill, candlelight walks in the evening, demonstrations of 19th century trades such as blacksmithing, window glazing, and dry stone wall construction. Also, live period music, baking demonstrations, and games and crafts for children.

This free event is co-sponsored by the National Park Service and Friends of Peirce Mill (FOPM), a non-profit group that raised more $1 million for restoring the milling machinery. The Obama Administration’s stimulus program provided $2 million to complete the restoration.
The Peirce Mill stone structure was built in the 1820s and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
