Sunday, Apr. 29: Temple Micah's Book Sale Open to All

All are welcome to attend Temple Micah's book fair, Sunday, April 29 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at 2829 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, Washington, DC. 


The fair will feature:

• a used book sale
• book talks and book signings
• and a magic show!

Food will be available for purchase beginning at 11:30 a.m. 


A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Books for America. Here is the schedule of authors' appearances:

10:00 a.m.: Marvin Kalb and Deborah Kalb speak on "Haunting Legacy: Vietnam and the American Presidency from Ford to Obama."

10:50 a.m.: Ariel Sabar speaks on "My Father's Paradise: A Son's Search for His Family's Past."

10:45 a.m.: Katy Kelly speaks on her chapter book series "Lucy Rose" and "Melonhead" (great for kids in grades 3-6) and Corkey Hay DeSimone speaks on "All About Me in DC" and "Cherry Blossom Friends" (great for kids in grades pre-K to 2).

12 p.m.: The Great Loudini will amaze young and old with his magic show.

Donate Your Gently Used Books to the Hearst E-cycle Event

We are happy to pass along this call from parents of the Hearst Elementary School PTA for book donations to the used book sale that is part of the Hearst E-cycle event on May 5th:

Greetings, neighbors!
 If you have gently used books that you are looking to donate, this year at the Hearst E-cycle on May 5th, we will also have a used book sale and we are now accepting book donations.
 Please drop off all book donations at the school between 8:00am and 6:00pm in the bin next to the security desk on the first floor. 

Hearst is located at 3950 37th St. NW. No encyclopedias or annotated books, please. We also will accept gently used CDs and DVDs.

Huge Annual Book Sale at Chevy Chase Library, Feb. 8 - 11

It's finally here! The Huge Annual Book Sale put on by the Friends of the Library (FOL) at the Chevy Chase DC Branch starts on Wednesday from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. for FOL members. Not yet a member? No problem. You can sign up at the door beginning at 5 p.m. (Minimum membership: $10)

When you reach the sale (2nd floor) you will find 30,000+ books, CDS, DVDs, audio books of every genre for adults as well as kids in scores of categories -- all clearly marked. Hundreds of pocket-sized sci-fi, mystery/thriller, and romance titles are just fifty cents.The vast majority of other titles are $2, but some of the newest fiction, vintage and rarer books, classics, art, cooking, and coffee table books in FOLio (DC's best quality used bookstore) are priced slightly higher.

You can shop the sale during regular library hours, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (9:30 - 5:30). Watch this space for news about a special "yard sale" Saturday afternoon, and Bag Day on Monday, Feb. 13, when you can fill a bag that you bring -- or we can supply -- for $5.

Oyster-Adams School Book Fair November 15 - 19

The Oyster-Adams Bilingual School is hosting their annual bilingual book fair.

Dates: Tuesday, November 15 though Saturday, November 19

Location: 2801 Calvert Street, NW, in the school cafeteria

Beauvoir Book Fair on November 8, 9, and 10

Beauvoir's Book Fair is coming soon! You'll find hundreds of titles for young children and elementary school students as well as some titles for young adult readers and adult readers. It's a great place to get a jump-start on your holiday shopping if you have young children on your list. If you can't make it on Tuesday evening, feel free to drop by anytime the Book Fair is open!

Great Library Book Sales This Friday and Saturday

There are not one but three big DC branch library book sales coming up. The one at the Palisades library is a two-day event, both Friday and Saturday. The one at the Tenley-Friendship Library is just on Saturday. Each event benefits the Friends of the Library for that branch.

Come to the Friends of Palisades Library's huge, two-day fall book sale on Friday, September 30, from 1 - 4 pm, and Saturday, October 1, from 10 am - 4pm, at the Library at 4901 V Street NW, on the corner of V Street and MacArthur Boulevard.

There will be more than ten thousand books!

Most books are only a dollar, except for bargain books, which are 25 cents each or $5 per bag. During the last three hours of the sale on Saturday (1 - 4 pm) regular books will sell for $10 per bag.

The Friends of Tenley-Friendship Library is holding its first book sale since the opening of the new Tenley Library. The sale will be on Saturday October 1 between 11am and 4pm in the library parking lot. We hope to see all our neighbors there.

We have a terrific selection of new and used books that have never been offered at a used book sale before. Most books are $3 and under! We have great fiction, including mysteries, thrillers, fantasy and science fiction; there's a wide variety of nonfiction: parenting, politics, history, cookbooks and much more. Our children's collection is large and covers all ages.

Come early for the best finds. Friends members will be admitted to the sale as early as 10am. If you are not yet a member, you may join at the door. Friends membership is $10 for individuals, $20 for families and $25 for businesses.

Cleveland Park Day is Saturday, October 1st, and the Friends of the Cleveland Park Library will be participating with a Bag O’ Books Bonanza from 10:00am - 4:00pm on the 2nd floor of the Library. 

Fill a shopping bag with all the mysteries, romances, or science fiction books that will fit -- all for just $3:00! Select hardcovers and paperback in any combination. We'll supply the bags, courtesy of community-friendly Whole Foods in Tenleytown. 

Book & Artisan Fair at Adas Israel on February 23

There's a fun event coming up in Cleveland Park, which benefits the Gan HaYeled preschool of Adas Israel. All are invited to the first (hopefully of many) annual Artisan and Book Fair on the evening of Wednesday, February 23 from 5:30-9 PM.

Meet and shop with more than 40 local artists and authors, including current and alumni Gan parents, Adas folks, and members of the greater DC community, who will be on hand to read from and sign their books, or sell a beautiful hand-embroidered bag, a personalized silver necklace, organic skin products, and much more.

Artisans, Authors, Illustrators: Sell Your Wares at The Gan Preschool Fair

Gan HaYeled preschool at Adas Israel is hosting an Artisan and Book Fair. It will take place on February 23, from 6 - 9 pm. Authors, illustrators and artisans will each have a table from which to sell wares, and 10-minute reading/presentation slots are available. Participants are asked to donate 10 percent of any sales to the school. Beauvoir School Book Fair November 9

Come shop at Beauvoir's Book Fair on Tuesday, November 9, 2010, and stay for a kick off reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

In addition, Beauvoir librarian and veteran storyteller Tony Hurst will be entertaining the children in the first grade common area with folktales, legends, and stories. Two story times are available: 5:30 p.m. for kids ages two to five and 6:30 p.m. for children six and over. Tony uses storytelling to promote a love of literature and develop an appreciation of different cultures.
